What is plugNmeet?

plugNmeet is an open-source web conferencing platform for online classes, meetings and webinars. It is released under the MIT licence, and its source code is on GitHub. It is maintained by MynaParrot, the company that publishes this FAQ, so please read this answer with that in mind.

How it is built: plugNmeet uses LiveKit, an open-source WebRTC media server, plus its own server and browser client. Participants join from a browser link; no app is required.

Main features (from the project documentation):

  • Audio, video, chat and screen sharing; whiteboard with document upload; shared notepad.
  • Breakout rooms, polls and waiting room.
  • Recording to MP4, live streaming to YouTube or Facebook (RTMP), and studio input from tools like OBS (RTMP/WHIP).
  • Phone dial-in (SIP).
  • Optional end-to-end encryption.
  • AI features: live captions, translation, transcripts and meeting summaries.
  • Attendance and activity analytics, exportable to a spreadsheet.

Connecting it to other systems:

  • A Moodle plugin (mod_plugnmeet) with calendar, activity completion based on attendance and participation, grading and a recordings tab.
  • LTI, for learning platforms such as Moodle, Canvas or Chamilo.
  • A BigBlueButton-compatible API, so many tools built for BigBlueButton can connect to plugNmeet by changing the server URL and secret.
  • Its own API and SDKs for developers.

How to use it: self-host it with the project's installation script on your own server, or use a hosted service. As with any self-hosted video platform, you need a server, a domain with SSL, open network ports and someone to maintain it.
