Video Classroom

Teach live online, as if you were in the room

A live classroom built for teaching, not meetings: whiteboard, screen sharing, breakout rooms, polls and recordings. It runs in the browser, works inside the platform you already use, and we set it up for you.

Set-up, training and support included in your plan.

Not sure which solution fits?

Video calls were built for meetings. Lessons need more: a board to explain on, groups for practice, a quick check that everyone has understood, and a recording for the student who was ill. Video Classroom gives teachers those tools in one live room, without asking students to install anything.

It runs on one of two open-source engines, BigBlueButton or plugNmeet, and you can try them below. MynaParrot provides the technology and can help with hosting, integration and support. We connect the classroom to your Moodle, Chamilo, other platforms through LTI or your website when you need it.

What's in the room

  • Whiteboard and screen sharing to explain, annotate and show.
  • Breakout rooms for group work and speaking practice.
  • Polls to check understanding in seconds.
  • Recordings students can watch again, also as downloadable MP4 files.
  • Nothing to install. Students join from a link or straight from their course.
  • Inside your platform: Moodle, Chamilo, WordPress and more.
  • Classes planned around your timetable

BigBlueButton or plugNmeet: which one to pick

Both are open source, both run in the browser and both cover everything a live class needs. There is no wrong choice. These are the honest differences.

Pick BigBlueButton if…

  • your teachers already use BigBlueButton in Moodle and you want no change for them
  • you want the long-established classroom used by many schools and universities
  • you use apps built for BigBlueButton, such as Greenlight or Chamilo's videoconference plugin
  • you'd rather not add optional extras and keep the familiar tool

Pick plugNmeet if…

  • you want AI captions, live translation or a summary after class, powered by Gemini from Google
  • attendance should count towards completion in Moodle, with rules such as time attended
  • you want the classroom embedded in your own site or Moodle, under your brand
  • you prefer a newer, modern interface

Both do this: Both do this: whiteboard, screen sharing, breakout rooms, polls, chat, recordings with MP4 download, joining from the browser on a computer, tablet or phone, live streaming, and working inside Moodle.

What do you need to do?

Choose the situation closest to yours.

    • A live-class activity inside each course: teachers start it, students join with one click.
    • Recordings in the same course, also as MP4 downloads.
    • Attendance that can count towards completion in Moodle.
    • Your branding, and a classroom set up for your timetable.

Built on: BigBlueButton or plugNmeet (open source).

Works with: Moodle, Chamilo, WordPress, Joomla and Moodle, Chamilo, other platforms through LTI or your website.

Good to know: We check the integration against your platform's version before setup.

And the meeting tool we already have?

Being honest: if your school already pays for a meeting tool, your teachers are happy with it and you mainly run meetings, you may not need anything else. Video Classroom makes more sense when:

  • you teach live every week and want the teaching tools front and centre, not hidden in settings
  • you want classes, recordings and attendance inside your course, not in a separate account per teacher
  • time limits, per-host licences or free-tier restrictions get in the way of a full timetable
  • you want open-source software, hosting you can choose, and someone local who supports you

Self-hosting the open-source stack

Most tools we mention are open source — BigBlueButton, plugNmeet, Moodle and others — so you can run them on infrastructure you control. Self-hosting is a broad topic; at a high level it usually involves:

  • A server (or cluster) sized for your expected live sessions and recordings
  • A domain name and TLS certificates so users connect over HTTPS
  • Installing each component from the project's official documentation, then keeping versions updated
  • Backups of configuration, course data and recordings, and basic monitoring so you know when something fails

Frequently asked questions

Do my students need to install anything?

No. Video Classroom runs in a modern browser on a computer, tablet or phone. Students join from a link or from inside your course.

Can we try it before we decide?

Yes. Try plugNmeet live in your browser today. For BigBlueButton you can watch the recorded tour or request a guided demo.

BigBlueButton or plugNmeet: which one should we choose?

BigBlueButton if your teachers already know it and you want the familiar tool. plugNmeet if you want AI captions and translation, attendance-based completion in Moodle or your own logo and colours inside your platform. We can help you decide.

Does it work inside our Moodle?

Yes. BigBlueButton is a standard Moodle activity, and plugNmeet has its own Moodle plugin. We check both against your Moodle version.

And Chamilo or other platforms?

Chamilo connects to BigBlueButton through its videoconference plugin. WordPress and Joomla have plugNmeet plugins, and other platforms can add the classroom through LTI.

We use the free BigBlueButton service in Moodle. Why would we change?

The free service is meant for trying things out, not a full weekly timetable. If you teach full classes every week, you need a hosted service sized for your timetable, set up by MynaParrot.

We already use BigBlueButton. Do we lose our courses?

No. Your activities stay, and only the server settings change. Moving to plugNmeet can keep the same integration, because plugNmeet speaks the BigBlueButton API.

Can classes be recorded?

Yes. Recordings appear in the course and can be downloaded as MP4 files.

What are the AI features?

With plugNmeet, you can add live captions, live translation and a summary after class, powered by Gemini from Google. They're optional and switched on only for the classes that need them.

Where is our data hosted?

MynaParrot provides the technology and can help with hosting, integration and support.

Who sets it up and who supports us?

We help with set-up, training and day-to-day support. MynaParrot provides the technology and the demo rooms behind it, and can help with hosting, integration and support.

Is there a time limit on classes?

We configure the service for your timetable and your classes.

How many students can join?

We size the service for your classes and your busiest hour.

What does it cost?

It depends on your users, hosting and the services you need. We send you one written proposal covering the technology and services.

Who do I work with?

Scope, pricing and support are set out in a written proposal for you. MynaParrot provides the technology behind it.
